Google rolled out the Lake America change on Saturday, while the official US government maps are still waiting.

The lake will appear as “Lake America” in the U.S. and “Lake Ontario” in Canada, similar to Google’s change for the Gulf of Mexico last year.

The name change even made its way to some government websites in Canada which pull map data from Google Maps. Meanwhile, Ontario Premier Doug Ford made his position clear by erecting a billboard on the shore of the lake.

Aug 30 (Reuters) - Google Maps has changed the name of "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America" for U.S. users to reflect President Donald Trump's executive order renaming the lake, according to a Google statement.

Google said in a blog post Saturday that the decision was based on its practice of using names assigned by the US Geographic Names Information System.
