Forty-six people died when a government ferry capsized on Lake Kariba. Zimbabwe's civil protection unit says the vessel was carrying more people than its capacity.

Grieving families gathered at a mortuary in Kariba on Thursday as the death toll from Tuesday’s ferry disaster on Lake Kariba rose to 46, while survivors described the desperate struggle to escape the sinking vessel.

HARARE, Aug 12 - Fifteen bodies have been recovered from a lake in Zimbabwe where a passenger ferry capsized on Tuesday, and at least 27 people including young children are still missing, a local official told state-owned The Herald newspaper.
