The remains of what’s believed to be an ancient mammoth were discovered Wednesday on the newly exposed riverbed of the Danube in northern Bulgaria, after the river plunged to record lows.

There are believed to be about 200 Nazi ships on the floor of the Danube near Prahovo, Serbia. Ferries, tourist boats, and shipping have also become severely restricted due to the drought.

The waters of the mighty Danube, Europe's second-longest river, have dropped in parts to a record low due to successive heatwaves that have parched the continent since May.

Historians say the retreating Nazis scuttled as many as 200 ships in the Danube gorge as they retreated in 1944.
