A massive wildfire has been raging across the Bordeaux region for almost a week now, and these forest fires are emitting toxic smoke that is sometimes visible from dozens of kilometres away. This smoke has harmful effects on all living beings, including the vineyards.

PARIS, July 28 - Wildfires burning outside Bordeaux are underscoring the climate challenges facing France's largest wine region, where producers are grappling with severe drought, rising temperatures and falling wine consumption.

French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a crisis cabinet meeting on Monday as wildfires closed in on the south-western city of Bordeaux.

Blazes are about 15km from Bordeaux, but the city's mayor says there are no plans to evacuate.

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated from the wildfires raging in France and Spain.
