Warning to public after monkey escapes from Scottish wildlife park

People are urged not to approach Luka, who has escaped from his enclosure and is now roaming free

Luka the Japanese macaque was last seen in the Balavil area after disappearing from Highland Wildlife Park.

A young male Japanese macaque has escaped from his habitat at Highland Wildlife Park.Highland Wildlife Park said search teams are currently working to locate the macaque, named Luka, using a range of techniques including a thermal imaging drone.

The Japanese macaque, whose name is Luka, was reported missing from the Highland Wildlife Park near Aviemore.

Yet another Japanese macaque, this time one called called Luka, fled from his home at the park near Kingussie.

The park was at the centre of a similar monkey escape that lasted more than five days in January 2024.
