US: Wildfire forces mass evacuations near Reno, Nevada

A wind-driven wildfire has forced roughly 42,000 people to evacuate and destroyed homes as fire crews continue to battle extreme conditions.

Officials in Nevada have urged people to evacuate their homes as a fast-moving, wind-driven wildfire bore down on the city of Reno.

Fire crews stopped the forward spread of the Petaluma Fire in Sonoma County after the vegetation blaze moved into a solar facility.

Officials say the fire, which has now burned more than 15,000 acres and is zero percent contained, was human caused. Nearly 90,000 people have been told to evacuate or prepare to leave.

A video posted on TikTok captured three men clad in headlamps and overalls hurriedly pulling themselves out of the steamy depths of a manhole at 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
