U.S. forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers Sunday after the military observed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Tehran to vow retaliation in the first known American strike inside Iran since late July.

The strike comes after weeks of ceasefire between the countries, sparking a new vow of retaliation from Tehran.

The last major U.S. strikes on Iran were carried out in late July.

"We will take retribution" against the US for striking Larak Island, a spokesperson for the IRGC told state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday evening, adding that Iran "will punish those responsible."
