US President Trump signs new orders to limit birthright citizenship

Aug 6 (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Thursday in a new but narrower attempt to curtail birthright citizenship, once again challenging a provision of the US Constitution even though the Supreme Court rejected his previous effort.

Trump called the Supreme Court decision "very unfair," and said the new orders were an attempt to end birthright citizenship by other means.

Limiting birthright citizenship has been one of the top priorities in the Republican president's crackdown on immigration.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is once more trying to limit the number of people who are born in the country who can become American citizens, in a sign that even after his first attempt at limiting birthright citizenship was rejected by the Supreme Court, he’s ready to try again.
