US judge questions but won't yet block Trump's new birthright citizenship order

The US Supreme Court had in June rejected US President Donald Trump's initial efforts to end birthright citizenship for children whose parents aren't citizens or legal permanent residents.

Boardman, an appointee of Democratic President Joe Biden, said because the plaintiffs' lawsuit did not even mention Trump's 2026 order, she was unable to block it from being implemented at this time.

The rejection is a temporary setback for immigrant rights advocates, who have been instructed to revise their petition.
