The attack comes after the US and Iran exchanged fire over the weekend for the first time in a month.

The incident comes after U.S. forces on Sunday struck Iranian rocket launchers on an Iranian island, breaking a lull in fighting in the six-month war.

An Iranian drone was intercepted early Monday over United Arab Emirates territorial waters, the Defence Ministry said. The attack followed an exchange of fire between Iran and the United States on the weekend, which was the first significant military action in the war for more than a month.

Iranian officials said two people were killed and several others injured in the U.S. attack Sunday night on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
