Unions, advocacy groups sue to overturn US visa rule for foreign students, journalists

A coalition of unions and advocacy ​groups sued the federal government on Tuesday seeking to block a rule ‌that would limit how long foreign students and journalists can remain in the U.S. without applying for extensions.

A coalition sued to block a DHS visa rule changes that would cap international students at four years in the U.S. and limit foreign journalists to 240 days.

New rule caps student and exchange visas to four years, while most journalist visas will be limited to 240 days.

The rule, effective Sept 15, restricts student and exchange visas to four years and journalist visas to 240 days.
