The British embassy in Washington raised the incident with the White House out of concern that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles' phone had been hacked for a second time.

Last year several U.S. officials and business leaders received similar texts, and Wiles said then that contacts on a personal cell phone had been hacked.

Someone posing as Donald Trump's chief of staff managed to exchange messages with Andy Burnham before the hoax was discovered.

Sources said a few messages of no significance were sent and the incident was quickly reported to the appropriate authorities
