UEFA keeps World Cup boycott threat despite FIFA apology for sale plan

UEFA is holding on to its threat of a World Cup boycott, despite apologies from FIFA and Gianni Infantino for plans to sell stakes of the tournament.

European soccer's governing body UEFA stressed that its key conditions for a return to FIFA competitions had not been met.

#FIFA's crisis meeting and apology haven't convinced #Europe's #football governing body. In a statement published on August 6, the #UEFA said it would maintain its #WorldCup #boycott over FIFA's plan to open up competitions to private investment.

"Yesterday’s announcement that some people employed by the FIFA President (and whose careers depend on his favour) agree with him changes nothing," UEFA said in a statement on Thursday.

European football's governing body UEFA said they would maintain their boycott of the men's and women's World Cups on Thursday despite FIFA withdrawing the plan to open up their competitions to private investment.

The world governing body also apologised to the FIFA council and member associations for errors and committed to “ensure they do not happen again.”
