The vessel, which was in international waters near Ecuador, was allegedly used as a floating refueling station for drug boats belonging to the Los Choneros organization.

Tackling drug trafficking in Latin America is a key priority for Washington. In March, Ecuador joined a US-led coalition to combat the drug trade in the region.

The U.S. military attacked a boat suspected of being used to smuggle drugs in the Caribbean Sea on Tuesday, killing four people, as the Trump administration continues its monthslong campaign against alleged traffickers in Latin America.

RCMP said Wednesday that search warrants were being executed at two homes and a vehicle in the Greater Montreal area, as well as the employees’ work base in Dorval.
