U.S., Canadian negotiators meet as deadline for new tariffs looms

U.S. and Canadian negotiations met in Washington on Friday ahead of a midnight deadline for the imposition of stiff new American tariffs.

WASHINGTON, Aug 21 - Top trade negotiators from Canada and the U.S. met for the third day running in Washington on Friday to try to finalize a trade deal before threatened new American tariffs come into effect on Saturday.

The U.S. is scheduled to impose more tariffs on Canada, hitting about $20 billion dollars worth of goods, as trade negotiations between the two neighboring countries hit an impasse.
