U.N. backs new world map showing Africa's true size

The United Nations General Assembly voted to adopt a new map that more accurately depicts Africa's size. The U.S. was the only country to vote against the map, while six other countries abstained.

Togo led the initiative to further the African Union campaign to limit use of the Mercator map, which distorts the relative size of land masses by expanding those nearer the poles.
