Two ex-Sri Lanka officials sentenced to death over 2019 Easter bombings

Former officials will appeal sentences handed down for neglecting intelligence warnings before the deadly attacks.

The court ruled that former police chief Pujith Jayasundara and ex-defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando failed to act despite receiving warnings about a possible attack.

Jayasundara, 66, and Fernando, 76, can appeal against the sentence in the Supreme Court, but have been remanded to judicial custody until granted bail.
