Tumbler Ridge shooting survivors launch new lawsuits against OpenAI

Lawyers representing survivors of the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., say they are filing 30 new lawsuits against OpenAI, alleging the tech company was negligent in not reporting the shooter’s chat history to police before the attack, which left nine people dead.

A new round of lawsuits builds onto seven cases, in which families of victims killed in the shooting accused OpenAI and Sam Altman of prioritizing profits over safety.

The suits say that recommendations to alert police about the alleged shooter were nixed by the OpenAI's global affairs team, led by veteran political strategist Chris Lehane. OpenAI denies the claims.
