President Trump publicly opposed the DOJ's dismissal of charges against David Hearn, claiming the damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was vandalism.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s extraordinary campaign to blame an apparently botched renovation of Washington’s Reflecting Pool on vandals took another twist Saturday when he attacked his hand-picked prosecutor for dropping charges against an ex-Olympian arrested in the controversy.

Trump administration prosecutors admitted Friday that damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was due to a "botched installation."

Federal prosecutors suggested that the damage was instead due to a rushed installation.

The government had accused David Hearn of ripping a piece of sealant after a $14 million renovation. Hearn has repeatedly said that he simply touched the water in the pool out of curiosity last month.
