Trump Announces US Space Academy To Train Military, Civilian Recruits

The United States is competing with China in the race to land astronauts on the Moon before 2030, more than 50 years after humans first walked the lunar surface.

As NASA prepares to make history this weekend with the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope, expected to dramatically expand our view into the universe, President Trump today announced a new academy for the Space Force branch of the military. NBC News’ Tom Costello reports.

"It's called the U.S. Space Academy. That's a big deal," Trump said as he signed an executive order creating the new school.

He has billed it as a new military and civilian institution modelled after West Point and other military service academies.
