The Trump administration revoked the visa of Brazil's ambassador, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, in retaliation for blocked US diplomat visas.

The United States has revoked the visa of Brazil's ambassador in Washington after Brazil withheld formal approval for President Donald Trump's nominee as U.S. ambassador and denied visas ⁠to two American diplomats, a senior US State Department official said yesterday.

The State Department has canceled the visa of the Brazilian ambassador in Washington, deepening a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

The move was in response to Brazil delaying formal diplomatic approval of the US ambassador to Brasilia and denying visas to several US diplomats. Brazil has rejected the decision.

An official has indicated that the visa revocation would not mean that Brazil's ambassador will be expelled from the US.
