Greek firefighters are battling a wildfire northwest of Athens for the fourth day, as strong and erratic winds continue to fan the blaze. Fires throughout the country have killed five firefighters since last week.

PSATHA, Greece, Aug 3 - Hundreds of Greek firefighters battled a wildfire northwest of Athens for a fourth day on Monday after strong and erratic winds helped it devastate homes, pine forests and thousands of hectares of farmland, forcing emergency evacuations by land and sea.

At its peak, there were five engines from across Cheshire and Merseyside working to tackle the blaze

Two Greek firefighting helicopters collided in midair on Sunday as they were battling a wind-driven wildfire west of Athens.

The fire service says it's expected to smoulder for some time and they will continue to to monitor the site

The public is urged to stay away while emergency crews attend to the fire.
