Türkiye Says It Expects Egypt to Join the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement

Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan pressed Egypt to join the mutual-defence pact signed in Makkah on 7 August. Cairo says the commitments require detailed study.

Turkish president tells Al Jazeera that the recently signed agreement is open to new members as he pledges continued support.

The trilateral deal signed last week stipulates that an attack on any of the three states will be treated as an attack on all.

This comes after the Sunni Muslim US allies signed the “Mecca Joint Defence Agreement” on Aug 7.
