The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog has said its inspectors have found several tons of nuclear material in Syria, at a site which the authorities said they reported to the agency last month.

Syria is not known to hold operational stockpiles of nuclear material for a weapons program, but Israel bombed a suspected Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007 in the country's eastern province.
