The 26-year-old received a yearlong sentence from a court on the Indonesian resort island after he flouted a sacred Hindu ritual and insulted it on Instagram.

The 26-year-old was given a one-year prison sentence for offensive remarks posted on Instagram. During the trial, he apologized to the Balinese people for denigrating the Day of Silence and said he regretted his actions.

The tourist posted videos on Instagram during Nyepi in which he showed himself walking to a beach despite the restrictions.
