Spain Takes Over Ceuta’s Port to House, Return Thousands of Migrants

Spain’s government has taken over Ceuta’s port to shelter hundreds of migrants living on streets and beaches more than a month after a mass influx entering from Morocco overwhelmed the North African enclave.

Ikram, 17, left the Moroccan border town of Fnideq at the end of July, when an estimated 80,000 Moroccans and migrants from countries further south travelled travelled to the northern border city, hoping to cross into Ceuta. For a brief period, Ikram felt relief in the Spanish enclave. But she is now homeless.
