A number of buildings and cars are damaged in the historic city, and the world famous Alhambra palace has closed temporarily.

At least three people were lightly injured, Andalusia's regional official Antonio Sanz told reporters, adding that one of them, a minor, was taken to hospital.

MADRID, Aug 18 - Tourist access to the medieval Alhambra complex was restricted on Tuesday after three more earthquakes shook Spain's southern Granada province, causing some damage to buildings in the region and forcing the closure of some museums and sport facilities.

The Andalusian province of Granada on Tuesday experienced a 4.8 earthquake following a tremor of the same magnitude three days earlier, leading authorities to evacuate the Alhambra and urge the 'utmost caution'.

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale has shaken the holiday hotspot of Granada in Spain.

The fire service received 300 calls and performed 85 interventions, especially in southern Granada and the city’s metropolitan area, said Antonio Sanz, the Andalusia region’s top emergencies official.

A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Granada in the early hours of Saturday morning, causing damage to buildings and cars but with no injuries reported.
