Elon Musk's space company plans to spend $100 billion to build a new spaceport in Louisiana to launch rockets, state officials and the company announced.

A spaceport on the Louisiana Gulf Coast will enable "a multiplanetary future", said SpaceX.

The new spaceport is aimed to support thousands of launches each year, according to SpaceX.

It would be the rocket company’s second private launch site after Starbase, its headquarters in South Texas.

SpaceX is committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating more than 3,000 new jobs at Starbase, Louisiana, the company said in a statement.
