South Western Railway launches crackdown on 'short faring' at two major London stations

SWR has launched a crackdown on ‘short faring’ where customers deliberately buy a ticket that covers only part of a journey

South Western Railway registered its highest-ever freight loading for the month of July, handling 4.69 million tonnes of originating freight in July 2026, an increase of 11.7% over the 4.2 MT recorded in the corresponding month last year

South Western Railways, serving Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, found 95 per cent of barcode tickets bought between Vauxhall and London Waterloo were being used fraudulently.

Rail Minister Winston Peters and Transport Minister Chris Bishop officially opened the facilities on Saturday.
