Sixth person dies to Upper East Side's Legionnaires' outbreak

A sixth person has died in the Upper East Side's Legionnaires' disease outbreak, New York City health officials said Tuesday.

"Heartbreakingly, I’ve just learned that a sixth person has died in connection with the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak on the Upper East Side," City Council Speaker Julie Menin announced.

At least 90 cases have been identified in the outbreak, according to the New York City Health Department.

New York has endured significant outbreaks in recent years. Some experts say officials should focus more on risks in plumbing systems, even shower heads.
