Salmonella outbreak linked to Mexican jalapenos sickens 345 across 27 U.S. states

The U.S. CDC and the FDA said they are investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers from Mexico, which have sickened 345 people across 27 states and prompted a recall of affected products.

Federal health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak tied to jalapeños that’s sickened 345 people in 27 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

The lawsuit spawns from a salmonella outbreak linked to more than 200 people who consumed food containing tainted jalapenos at Mexican restaurants in Minnesota and Colorado.

The Minnesota Department of Health said it had identified 110 salmonella cases in this outbreak, and the F.D.A. is also investigating.

At least 110 people have fallen ill from salmonella in Minnesota, the vast majority of whom reported having eaten at the Mexican chain Chipotle. Tom Hanson has the story.
