The explosion occurred just before 8:00 p.m. local time close to an Italian restaurant located in one of Moscow's seven Stalin-era skyscrapers at Kudrinkskaya Square, the police said.

Russian state media, citing local authorities, reported an unidentified woman carrying a homemade bomb tried to get into an upscale restaurant in central Moscow but was stopped by a security guard.
