Rush to escape in Nevada as Hawk Fire sweeps into Reno neighborhoods

Authorities in Nevada told tens of thousands of people to evacuate ahead of a fast-moving wildfire on Monday. Jason Allen reports from the scene.

About 42,000 people in the Reno, Nev., area have been ordered to evacuate from their homes as firefighters battle a wildfire northwest of the city.

The Hawk Fire had devoured 15,040 acres by Sunday, just a day after it was first spotted northwest of “The Biggest Little City in the World."

The fast-growing Hawk Fire was spreading toward neighborhoods in northwest Reno early Sunday, growing to more than 10,500 acres (42 sq. km.) Nearly 14,000 homes were ordered evacuated, and the “GO NOW” zone reached the edge of the University of Nevada campus.
