Robert Gilman was on "death's door" before Russia freed him, advocate says

Robert Gilman, a U.S. Marine veteran, was imprisoned in Russia for over four years and now faces a long road to recovery, says a hostage crisis expert who advocated for Gilman's release.

A former US Marine imprisoned for four-and-a-half years in Russia has been freed after Russian president Vladimir Putin issued a humanitarian pardon for the American.

Russia released Robert Gilman on “a humanitarian basis,” President Trump said. Mr. Gilman’s family had said he was in dire physical condition.

Trump announced that American citizen and former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman was freed after being imprisoned in Russia for more than four years, where he was detained in 2022 under the Biden administration.
