Poland has scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft flying around 40km north of Kolobrzeg over the Baltic Sea, the country's defence minister has said.

There have been several incidents over recent weeks where NATO fighter jets have had to intercept Russian aircraft.

The military response comes just days after three Russian drones were shot down after violating Romanian airspace.
