Poland Officially Confirms Russian Kh-101 Missile Crashed on Its Territory

Poland’s deputy defense minister confirmed that the missile that entered Polish airspace was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile. Officials said about 20 Russian missiles had been heading toward Poland before being intercepted over Ukraine.

The missile travelled about 100 km over Polish territory after entering from Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the missile landed in an uninhabited area and did not pose a direct threat to civilians.

Russian missiles have briefly entered Polish airspace during Russian strikes on western Ukraine in the past, but a missile has never hit Poland itself.

Poland says the unidentified object, aimed at western Ukrainian territory, violated Polish airspace and territory after missing its target, crashing near the eastern city of Lublin, causing an explosion and leaving behind a 10-metre wide crater.

A Russian missile probably fell in the eastern part of Poland early morning on Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
