Panic in Kinshasa as nearly 200 boat passengers forced into quarantine after Ebola death

The outbreak is spreading at an "alarming" rate, according to experts.

It comes as dozens of health workers at the epicentre of the outbreak staged protests to demand payment for their wages.

Congolese authorities are carrying out Ebola and cholera screening for all 255 passengers aboard a boat intercepted on the Congo River.

The health minister says all the passengers are being screened as a precautionary measure.

DAKAR, Aug 6 - Congolese health authorities have intercepted a boat carrying 200 people to the capital Kinshasa after a passenger who had disembarked earlier died on July 25 after developing symptoms consistent with Ebola, officials said on Thursday.
