Nine-year-old boy in serious condition after infection caused by brain-eating amoeba

The boy was hospitalized with swelling in his brain and was subsequently sedated and ventilated in intensive care at Rambam Hospital.

There haven’t yet been any reports of an infection in Canada and in the U.S., only 10 a year, according to Ian Young, an associate professor with the Toronto Metropolitan University in the school of occupational and public health.
