Nick Reiner has spent some of his family money on murder defense, lawyers say

LOS ANGELES — Nick Reiner has paid for at least a portion of his murder defense with money set aside for him by the parents he’s accused of killing — and he’s arguing he’s due even more, probate lawyers revealed Monday.

The 32-year-old has yet to receive the funds, aside from token allotments for prison commissary purchases, after being blocked by a trustee citing a "slayer statute."

The hearing comes one month after sources raised concerns that Nick — who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia — was “rapidly deteriorating” while incarcerated at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
