A U.K. production company and filmmaker are suing Netflix for $105 million US, after a copy of an unreleased Nicolas Cage movie was stolen from the streaming giant's Los Angeles offices.

A production company is suing Netflix for $105 million for losing a master copy of an unreleased movie, which it claims will hurt its sales prospects.

Netflix has been slapped with a $105 million lawsuit after the hard drive for an unreleased Nicholas Cage movie was stolen from his office.

A lawsuit claims Netflix lost an unencrypted $45 million thriller, risking piracy and demanding $105 million in damages.

The lawsuit states that an encrypted copy of the film was on one of several hard drives stolen from Netflix offices in Los Angeles last month, and that the theft has compromised the sale of the film.

Producer Simon Afram claims an unencrypted master copy of “Fortitude”, a World War II drama starring Nicolas Cage, was delivered to Netflix in June at the company’s request while negotiations were under way to secure a distribution deal.

Simon Afram and his company Op-Fortitude said that the hard drive which contained an unencrypted master copy of the film went missing after it was delivered to Netflix.
