Nepal tunnel rescue effort intensifies as survival hopes fade

Rescue efforts stepped up at a tunnel in Nepal's Rasuwa district on Wednesday, a week after a glacier collapse in the Himalayas unleashed flash floods that devastated the mountainous nation. Hopes of finding more survivors among the thousands still missing in Nepal were fading, authorities said on Wednesday.

Rescue teams in Nepal and Tibet are continuing to search through mud, rocks and debris after catastrophic floods hit the region in late August.

As authorities mobilised dozens of rescue and relief teams, Maharjan joined the Nepal Army’s rescue efforts a day after the flash floods, which have since killed more than 1,000 people and left thousands missing in Nepal and China.
