A drone was shot down by NATO jets as Russian forces launched a series of ballistic missiles and drone strikes overnight.

BUCHAREST, Aug 16 - An F-18 fighter on a NATO air policing mission shot down a drone that illegally breached Romanian national airspace, the fourth unmanned aircraft shot down over the country this year, Romania's defence ministry said on Sunday.

The Latvian military said a drone that entered the country's airspace overnight was shot down by NATO Baltic Air Policing jets.

The first such incursion took place in June, when a foreign drone was also shot down by NATO fighter jets.
