NATO counters suspected Russian drone incursions

A Spanish fighter jet shot down a suspected Russian drone over Romania on Sunday, two days after NATO downed a similar drone over Latvia.

Romania has recorded numerous airspace incursions by Russian drones over the last four years

The incursion and a rare attribution to Moscow add to fears that the war in Ukraine will spill into Europe.

"Additional details regarding Sunday’s incident remain under investigation, but the drone appears to be Russian," a spokesperson for NATO's military headquarters said.

Romania's Defence Ministry didn't specify origin of the drone but has previously blamed Russia for similar incidents.
