Myanmar's detained leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met with the International Committee of the Red Cross representative to the country Monday morning.

Myanmar’s detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi met with a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross on Monday, a Myanmar government spokeswoman said, following years of questions over the health and well-being of the 81-year-old.

Myanmar’s military-led government released images from the 81-year-old Nobel laureate’s meeting with ICRC’s resident representative for Myanmar, Arnaud de Baecque.

The Nobel Prize winner has been in detention since February 2021, when Myanmar's military ousted an elected civilian government led by her in a dawn coup.

The Myanmar government also released photographs of Aung San Suu Kyi, however, the location and date of the images have not been independently verified.

Myanmar's detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi met with a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross on Monday, a spokeswoman for the Myanmar government ​said, amid concerns over the health of the 81-year-old.

The military deposed Suu Kyi in February 2021, jailing the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and triggering an ongoing civil war that has killed more than 100,000 people on all sides.

The Nobel Peace ​Prize winner has been in detention since February 2021, when an elected civilian government she led was ousted by Myanmar's military in a dawn coup.
