Montreal’s police chief says it will take 10 years to rebuild trust after racism allegations

Montreal’s Police Chief Fady Dagher says it will likely take seven to 10 years to bring about a culture change and rebuild trust after allegations of racist and hateful acts by his police officers.

For over a decade, residents of Montreal North have expressed discontent with the city’s police force over concerns about racial profiling and discrimination.

In a bid to overhaul its institutional culture, the Montreal police service has launched a broad response plan aimed at restoring community trust and fighting discrimination following allegations of racial profiling by a group of officers.
