Missouri voters rejected a bid to ditch the state’s income tax Tuesday, while big votes loom in Florida and California this fall.

Legislatures in several Republican-led states have been pushing to slash or even eliminate income taxes on their residents.

While nine states have phased out individual income taxes, Missouri voters apparently feared an increase in other forms of taxation to make up for the revenue loss.
