Met Office reveals summer 2026 UK's hottest on record as horror heat driven by climate change

Weather forecasters have released provisional figures indicating the average temperature for the months of June, July and August blew past previous records by 0.4C

Summer 2026 has been declared the hottest on record by the Met Office after provisional data.

The UK had a spring and summer of persistent heat with five widespread heatwaves and 40 days of temperatures above 30C (86F), smashing the previous record of 34 days.
