The Pittsburgh Pirates released designated hitter Marcell Ozuna after a career-worst offensive slump, a league source told UPI on Wednesday.

The slugger was signed to a one-year deal last offseason with a mutual option for 2027.

The Pirates deepened their bullpen at the deadline but not its lineup, which was been hampered lack of production from Ozuna.
