A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people and damaging hundreds of buildings, President Abelardo de la Espriella said.

A powerful earthquake kills more than 47 people and topples buildings across western Colombia.

The Colombian geological service put the magnitude of the quake at 6.6 while its American counterpart USGS put it at 7.4.
