Toronto's Summer McIntosh opened her race schedule at the Pan Pacific swimming championships Wednesday night with a second-place finish outdoors in the women's 200-metre freestyle in Irvine, Calif.

As the year's biggest event begins, McIntosh is already firmly at the top of the sport. The question now is how much better can she get.
